The Dangoor Next Generation Programme is a British Exploring's outreach programme for young people who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in expeditions. The programme aims to develop self-confidence, motivation and communication skills through a 3 month training programme in the UK, followed by a 3 week expedition. The Dangoor Next Generation Programme's greatest success is that it truly encourages people to believe in themselves, their abilities, and consequentially, their potential for the future. Previously called simply The Next Generation programme, the programme has taken on a new format thanks to the generous support of the Dangoor family and a partnership with youth charity Catch22. Recruiting primarily from Catch22's youth initiatives in the UK, the programme now boasts a dedicated expedition tailored to provide additional support for some of the most marginalised young people in the UK.
To date, over 100 young people have taken part in the Next Generation programme. Participants, who admitted that their biggest problem in life was boredom and who at the start were quiet and awkward, returned from their expeditions transformed. Some have stayed in close contact with British Exploring, and have helped to interview and mentor new groups as mature young leaders.
